Money Secrets of the Amish by Lorilee Craker
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. Lorilee writes with a friendly, unintimidating tone while she interviews the Amish to find out what their money secrets are. She has such an engaging tone, that I found myself loving her Amish friends as much as she probably does. Included in her story are her modern urban friends and her rooted Amish friends. She gleans wisdom from both lifestyles, but of course to us modern urban folk, it is the Amish advice that is the most illuminating. The book is divided up into fourteen chapters, each of which is focused on a timeless truth that the Amish consider in their approach to money. One Amish man who she refers to repeatedly through the book is forty five years old, and has saved up four hundred thousand dollars to purchase his own farm. This is remarkable by itself, but this man saved this money while renting a farm for twenty years and raising fourteen children. Another character that figures strongly in this book is a banker who services an Amish community. All in all, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a different way to view money.
